VIBRANT FOREST STYGIAN ABYSS Cognac BA imperial coffee stout Cognac Barrel Aged version of our 11.5% Imperial Coffee Stout. Our house Imperial Coffee Stout is a titan by the name of Umbral Abyss. This is a thick blend of dark chocolate, molasses, liquorice, roasted and charred malts, all the good stuff you'd expect. When it's near ready for packaging, we steep 4 hefty sacks of freshly roasted coffee beans into the broth for 48 hours. Originally a bit of an experiment, Umbral Abyss was an immediate favourite. We wanted to give it the proper treatment and so we sat it in fresh Cognac barrels for 8 months. This has added a great deal of complexity to the brew. Much of the intense coffee flavour has been replaced with sweet, sticky flavours of the parent liquor. Oak is expressed, and a rich and fruity brandied aether encapsulates the experience.
